About The Delaware Veterans Home

About Us

At the Delaware Veterans Home, we are proud to serve those who have served us. Our highly qualified staff have the experience and the expertise to deliver the level of care our residents need with the dignity and respect they deserve. We also work hard to make sure that our residents always feel safe and welcome as part of the Delaware Veterans Home family.

Our Residents

Our residents come from many diverse backgrounds and vary in age, gender, and ethnicity but they all share the honor of having served our great country. Now it is our turn to serve them. With the help of the local community and volunteers, our goal is to offer a reliable, respectful home for our veterans to live in and to provide them with the compassionate care they deserve.

At the Delaware Veterans Home, our residents always come first.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide outstanding long-term care services to Delaware veterans that uphold dignity and respect while sustaining and improving their quality of life.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a recognized state and national leader in long-term veteran care, and a driving force in providing the best in nursing care, family wholeness, and ultimate enrichment for our heroes. Being the best means serving our residents with selfless and uncompromising loyalty, respect, integrity, and commitment.

Our History

On April 29, 2004, as supported by the Delaware General Assembly, House Bill 396 was signed into law by the Governor. This Bill appropriated funding to design and build a 150-bed veterans home. Dedication of the Delaware Veterans Home was performed on Delaware Day, December 7, 2006. The Home opened its doors to residents in June of 2007.

On July 13, 2010, the Friends of the Delaware Veterans Home held a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the pavilion. The pavilion features covered, outdoor program space in addition to a connected fishing pier over the stocked lake adjacent to the Home’s property.

On October 20, 2022, the Delaware Veterans Home held a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the beginning of the long-awaited, Dental Clinic construction. This new Dental Clinic will not only serve the veteran residents of this facility, but the veterans out in the community as well. Upon the opening of the new Dental Clinic, no longer will our community’s veterans need to find accommodations to travel to the Wilmington VA Hospital nor opt of out dental care due to lack of resources and transportation. The Delaware Veterans Home extends its sincerest gratitude to the Friends of the Delaware Veterans Home and the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs for their continued advocacy and support of our veterans.

On October 20, 2022, a Proclamation from the Office of Governor John C. Carney, presented by Lieutenant Governor, Bethany Hall-Long at the Delaware Veterans Home’s Dental Clinic ground-breaking ceremony, hereby declares October 20th, “Delaware Veterans Home Resident and Staff Commitment to Service Day.” In honor of the Delaware veterans who have so selflessly served our great nation, and the staff devoted to their care during a time of great adversity amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, this holiday is to commemorate their sacrifice and rise to the call of duty.
